Everyone Needs a Good Father

Jun 21, 2026    Tom Tunnicliff

This Father's Day message invites us to reconsider our understanding of fatherhood through the lens of Scripture, particularly Jesus' revolutionary teaching in Matthew 23 where He tells us not to call anyone on earth father, for we have one Father in heaven. Through the Sermon on the Mount, we discover five essential characteristics of our Heavenly Father: He rewards humble generosity done in secret, He truly knows our needs before we ask, He provides daily bread for His children, He forgives completely without bringing up past failures, and He protects us from evil. For those who had wonderful fathers, this deepens our appreciation. For those whose fathers wounded them deeply, this offers healing and hope. We all need a good father, and God is that good father we need.
