Employees and Employers

This exploration of Ephesians 6:5-9 challenges us to rethink our relationship with work. Rather than viewing our jobs as merely secular obligations separate from our spiritual lives, we discover that all honest work is sacred when done for God's glory. The ancient instructions to slaves and masters in the Roman Empire translate powerfully into our modern workplace relationships, revealing three transformative truths: our work is sacred, our true boss is divine, and our compensation is eternal. The false division between sacred and secular work crumbles when we realize that whether we serve as teachers, doctors, salespeople, or stay-at-home parents, we are all engaged in kingdom work. This perspective liberates us from the trap of working merely to impress our earthly supervisors and frees us to serve wholeheartedly, knowing that Jesus himself is watching and will ultimately reward our faithful service. The question that confronts us is simple yet profound: why do we do what we do?
