Drifting Can Happen to Anyone
What does it look like when someone who has everything slowly loses what matters most? The life of King Solomon gives us one of the most striking and sobering examples in all of Scripture. Solomon began with a prayer so humble it moved God to give him not only wisdom but wealth and honor beyond measure. He built the temple, witnessed fire fall from heaven, and heard directly from God twice. And yet, despite all of that, he drifted. Not suddenly, not dramatically, but slowly and quietly, through compromise after compromise, until his heart was divided and his devotion was hollow. This message walks us through Solomon's breathtaking rise and heartbreaking drift, and it challenges us to examine the compartments we may have quietly sealed off from God in our own lives. The lesson is not just about Solomon. It is about the subtle ways we rationalize our choices, lean on our own understanding, and gradually move God from the center to the margins. If a man of Solomon's wisdom could drift so far, none of us are immune. But the good news is that the same Word that warns us also shows us the way back.
