Intro to Drifting

Tom Tunnicliff

What does it look like when someone slowly loses their footing in faith? It rarely happens all at once. There is no dramatic moment of decision, no single turning point we can point to and say, "That is where everything changed. Instead, it happens gradually, quietly, almost imperceptibly, the way a boat untethered from its dock drifts with the current without anyone at the helm. God is faithful and always provides a way out when temptation comes. We are introduced to three levels of drifting, from minor course corrections to the slow, nearly invisible slide into a hardened heart, and we are challenged to honestly assess where we might find ourselves on that spectrum. The deeper we look, the more we realize that drifting is not just a spiritual problem. It is a relational one, and the antidote begins with how we show up for one another.
