My Weapon is a Melody
“And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony…” (Revelation 12:11a, ESV).
We live on a battlefield. A war is raging around us. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a physical representation of a spiritual reality. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
When Satan or some other foul spirit shoots a fiery dart at us, what do we do? How do we press our adversary in spiritual warfare? And what is the path to victory?
I love Revelation 12:11, which tells us that the believers defeated the accuser, Satan, “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony” (emphasis added). We experience victory over the accuser not only by Jesus’s death on the cross but also the word of our testimony—that is, the declaration of our allegiance to Christ, the proclamation of his gospel, and the exultation of our praise and worship. It’s exactly the lyrics to a well-known worship song:
I raise a hallelujah in the presence of my enemies
I raise a hallelujah louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah, my weapon is a melody
I raise a hallelujah, heaven comes to fight for me
When a spiritual enemy lobs a grenade into your family or your workplace or your circle of friends, hit back! The greatest blow you can strike against spiritual attack is to worship God in spite of it. I actually speak and sing out loud. Revelation 12:11 says we have victory by our words, but those words do precious little unless they are spoken (or sung).
We have been purchased by the blood of Jesus. Let our words declare this testimony, that we may march forth in victory.
