We'd like to invite you to a time of connecting with God and each other on Sat, July 29th! There are two parts to the evening. You can come for one or both parts. And, you can come and go as desired.
Worship will be in room 112 from 5:00 - 5:45 pm. You can sing and pray alongside others, or you can spend time independently with the Lord -- whatever your heart needs.
Mafia will be in room 112 from 6:00-8:30 pm. We do need an RSVP for this part (for planning purposes). Please eat dinner before you come. You may also want to bring a snack/drink for yourself.
How this interactive game works:
Participants sit in a circle and are given a card to assign roles. 2-3 people will be mafia members (the bad guys), the rest will be townspeople, the sheriff, and the doctor (the good guys). One person moderates, directing the group to go to sleep (close their eyes). During the "night," mafia members silently, and together, choose one person to "kill." The moderator wakes everyone up, announcing the person killed, who will then be out of the game (this person will have just as much fun watching). Everyone left in the game will try to decide who the mafia members are, via questioning and discussion. Individuals assumed to be mafia are put on trial. When someone is on trial, discussion focuses on this person, and eventually a vote is taken. If a majority of the group votes the person guilty, that person is out of the game. The moderator will have everyone go to sleep again, the process repeats itself, until all mafia members are discovered, or all good guys are killed.
Ages welcome:
We want all the adults to know that this evening has been set aside for you. :) But, younger people are welcome! No childcare will be provided -- everyone will be in the same space. For Mafia, we do ask that if a parent is bringing a child younger than 12 years old, that the parent play the game with the child to ensure a good game for all ages. :) We also need any bystanders to be focused on the game (so unfortunately, no other activities can be done off to the side, and all bystanders must be quiet observers!). Please know that these guidelines are only meant to help contribute to everyone's fun!
Why would we play a game that involves "killing" and "trickery"?
We definitely do not want to endorse these things! We love playing this game with groups simply because it is a fun way to see people's personalities. We've played with younger and older groups, and it has been a blast to interact with so many people through this game. Come try it -- you might just like it! Or, feel free to come just watch. :)
